Women’s History Month #WomensHistoryMonth

Starting off as Women’s History Day in 1978, then Women’s History Week in 1980, and finally evolving into Women’s History Month in 1987, March is a great time to commemorate the vital role of women in history.

March 1. World Compliment Day #WorldComplimentDay

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. This holiday centers on positivity and sincere appreciation. It only takes a few kind words to brighten someone else’s day, so why not start off the new month on a positive note? (in the most literal sense possible).

March 1. National Employee Appreciation Day #EmployeeAppreciationDay

Set some time aside to show appreciation to your team members and celebrate the contributions they make towards the success of your organization (hint, hint). We’ve got ideas for any budget, whether it’s a message of encouragement to said employees ($0) or a company offsite ($$$).

March 1. National Day of Unplugging #NationalDayOfUnplugging

There’s so much to take in when it comes to the world around us. Bask in the sun, get round to that DIY project you’ve been putting off, or simply pull out your favorite book. As long as you’re taking some kind of break from screens and technology, you’ll be doing March 1 justice.

March 2. Brit Awards #BRITs

Who else knew that the Brits is a backronym for ‘British Record Industry Trusts Show?’ Sponsored by Mastercard, it is the UK’s most high profile music awards ceremony, attracting national and international talent alike.

March 3. World Wildlife Day #WorldWildlifeDay

The theme for this year’s World Wildlife Day is “Connecting people and planet: Exploring digital innovation in wildlife conservation,” following the 2023 theme of “Partnerships for wildlife conservation.” The aim of this day is simple. Reflecting on our responsibility to protect biodiversity on our planet.

March 8. International Women's Day #BeBoldForChange

Although celebrations can be traced back to 1908 and even earlier in some countries, we have Clara Zetkin (Leader of the 'Women's Office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) to thank for making this holiday official. She proposed the idea at an international conference held in Copenhagen in 1910, which was greeted by unanimous approval.

@cnbci International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over a century starting from 1908, when thousands of women from the garment industry marched the streets of New York City demanding better working conditions and voting rights. Honoring these women, the Socialist Party of America designated the eighth of May as National Women’s Day the following year. While the United Nation Only formally added International Women’s Day to its calendar of observances. In 1975, it was already largely celebrated by socialist organizations and labor unions in various countries. Since 1913, the movement quickly became a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation in the political and economic arenas. Today, a century later, women continue to advocate for gender equality and while they’ve achieved many gains in the past several years, there’s still a lot of work left to do. The COVID pandemic also stalled progress towards achieving gender parity. According to the World Economic Forum’s global gender gap index, it will still take 132 years to close the global gender gap. #IWD #EmbraceEquity ♬ original sound - CNBC International

March 10. International Day of Awesomeness #IDOA #DayOfAwesomeness

Our theme song of choice for this event is “Everything Is Awesome!!!” from the LEGO Movie (2014) soundtrack. Everybody, everywhere has the solemn duty to revel in their awesomeness on this day. It’s all quite straightforward.

March 14. Pi Day #PiDay

For some reason (before extensive research), I thought this had to do with the film The Life of Pi (2012). But it turns out that this holiday is about the unequivocally more famous pi or π, also known as 3.14159… The celebration was created to make math more fun and relatable by physicist Larry Shaw, falling on March 14 because the first three significant figures of π are 3, 1, and 4.

March 14. Popcorn Lover's Day #PopcornLoversDay

It’s looking like pie (π) versus popcorn lovers on March 14. Not to be confused with National Popcorn Day on January 19, this version of the celebration is just as much about the delicious snack as it is about the enthusiasts who enjoy it.

March 15. World Sleep Day #WorldSleepDay

Greek God of Sleep Hypnos would be huge fans of this annual event. The theme for 2024 is ‘Sleep equity for global health,’ focusing on the importance of sleeping to our general health. Some food for thought: We’ve all been told that the average human needs about eight hours of sleep to function. But a recent trend on TikTok posits that women need around two to four hours more of sleep than men because the original study that led to the eight-hour conclusion failed to include women.

March 15. World Consumer Rights Day #WorldConsumerRightsDay

From product dupes to misleading packaging and marketing gimmicks, our rights as consumers need to be protected every day. It’s a great opportunity to advocate for transparency in the marketplace, whether digital or physical.

March 17. St. Patrick's Day #StPatricksDay

The luck of the Irish transcends borders on this festive day, as the death day of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s foremost patron saint, is honored.

Checklist:

✅Anything green (like a green hat)

✅Irish folk music

✅Beer (preferably green)

✅Gold coins

March 18. Global Recycling Day #GlobalRecyclingDay

Natural resources, although abundant, are finite. Recycling serves as a great way for us to put our consumable products back into the churn to create something new and useful. The basics: get to know your plastics and recycle accordingly, no food waste should go in your recycling bin, always recycle paper.

March 20. International Day of Happiness #InternationalDayofHappiness

As a key part of the human condition and arguably one of the biggest universal aspirations of members of the human race, happiness and the pursuit of happiness more than deserve a day of recognition.

March 20. World Storytelling Day #WorldStorytellingDay

As a writer, it is always an honor to celebrate the art of storytelling and the power of narratives to connect, inspire, and entertain in our modern world. World Storytelling Day traces its roots back to the early 1990s in Sweden, evolving from the celebration of more traditional storytelling to all the forms of storytelling we practice today.

March 20. First Day of Spring #FirstDayofSpring

Wave goodbye to winter as nature bursts with color and vitality. On the first day of spring, night and day seem to last about the same amount of time, at 12 hours each. While some use the opportunity to get started with their summer plans, others look at springtime as a season for renewal and rebirth.

March 21. World Poetry Day #WorldPoetryDay

Often considered to be the oldest form of literature, poetry (oral, in its earlier forms) was used to preserve stories, history, and religious beliefs. The literary art later appeared in written form as it evolved, on monoliths, runestones, and stelae. Established by UNESCO at the turn of the 21st century, World Poetry Day aims to promote the practice of poetry in our world.

March 22. World Water Day #WorldWaterDay

Who else has got Tyla’s grammy-winning song, “Water” stuck in their head? Staying on topic, World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance day that underlines the importance of fresh water. This year’s chosen theme is: water for peace.

March 23. National Puppy Day #NationalPuppyDay

If dogs are best friends to mankind and puppies are the cutest version of a dog, they might deserve a whole week of celebration. We can’t describe the day without at least one bad pun, so let’s get it over with. Founded by pet expert Colleen Paige, it’s a paw-some day that not only celebrates puppies but encourages their adoption.

March 23. Earth Hour Day #EarthHour

Held every year on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour engages individuals, communities, and businesses in over 190 countries and territories around the world, to turn off non-essential electric lights, for an hour, between 8:30 and 9:30 pm. This shines a spotlight on planet conservation and the climate crisis, seeing participation from iconic landmarks across the globe, like the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, Brandenburg Gate, and the Acropolis.

March 25. International Waffle Day #InternationalWaffleDay

In parts of Europe, this event emerged due to how similar “waffle day” (våffeldagen) sounds to the original March 25 event, "Our Lady's Day" (the Feast of the Annunciation) (Vårfrudagen) in Swedish. Don’t just take my word for it – try the sound feature on Google Translate! The event falls on August 24 in America to commemorate the anniversary of the first waffle iron patent issued.

March 31. World Backup Day #WorldBackupDay

From Google Drive to the trusted 1 terabyte hard drive from your college days, backing up your data can take many forms. This day prioritizes protecting your files and being prepared against data loss and data theft. It’s one of the most vital things to practice as a user of technology.

March 31. Easter #Easter

There’s a lot to love about the Easter period. Whether it’s church with your family and community, Easter egg hunting, or a spring break trip to remember.

March 31. Daylight Savings #DaylightSavings

If there was ever an argument that time is at least partly a human construct, Daylight Savings would it. Starting in March/April and ending in September/October, countries, primarily in the northern hemisphere, adjust their clocks and ‘spring’ forward (pun intended) to allow for more daylight and longer days in their spring and summer nights.

March 31. Transgender Day of Visibility #TDOV

A special occasion to honor and celebrate transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, raising awareness of the discrimination and struggles they face worldwide.
