In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, organizations are constantly seeking ways to optimize their operations, improve efficiency, and stay ahead of the competition. One crucial aspect of achieving these goals is by modernizing the core systems that power their business. At the recent SAP Nordic Premium Engagement Session held virtually on Teams, the topic of discussion was "Keep the Core Clean." The session highlighted the need to clean the current application environment, optimize operations for a move to the cloud, or transition to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). SAP services expert Juergen Mahler emphasized that SAP has the right tools and knowledge to guide organizations through this process, ensuring the protection of their current code while standardizing and modernizing their environment without disrupting current business processes.
The advisory and execution services for intelligent custom code management offered by SAP can help organizations achieve a safe transformation to a future-ready core. These services include various building blocks that facilitate the modernization process:
- Custom code analytics: SAP offers a structured and tool-based custom-code analysis that enhances transparency and helps build a transformation roadmap. This analysis provides insights into code effort, complexity, maintainability, cloud readiness, and more, enabling organizations to make informed decisions about their custom code.
- Clean core journey: SAP's advisory services can assist your organization in transforming their ABAP-based SAP applications to a clean core. This involves creating a custom-code transformation roadmap that may include recommendations to retire or remediate customized applications or re-platforming the system to SAP BTP. The roadmap also guides key users and developers on how to extend standard SAP processes while keeping the clean core isolated from any new custom code.
- Cloud readiness: SAP's execution services help You learn and apply the right extensibility concepts to redesign business processes and improve the user experiences. This may involve deploying SAP BTP for side-by-side extensions that leverage the latest innovation capabilities.
The custom code transformation roadmap provided by SAP's advisory and execution services is adaptable to each organization's unique needs. Depending on the engagement, organizations can receive deliverables such as intelligent data-driven analysis based on custom-code object dependencies, a custom-code transformation roadmap that classifies custom code into appropriate categories, and advisory and execution support for realizing the transformation roadmap.
