Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, begins on this day and runs until December 15. The eight-day holiday commemorates the Jewish people's rededication to the Temple, observed with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.

December 10 this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, observed by the international community yearly. The principles of freedom, justice, and equality are hallmarks of this holiday.
Poetically falling on the same day as International Human Rights Day, International Animal Rights Day is a global observance created to defend the belief that non-human beings have the right to a life free from exploitation and suffering. It also recognizes animals as sentient beings who deserve protections just as people do.

Mountain Day aims to create a large social movement that amplifies awareness about the significance of mountain ecosystems and key issues regarding these beauties of nature. This ranges from mountain development issues to the effects of pollution and environmental degradation.
Winter officially begins on this day, marked by the shortest day (because it has the fewest hours of sunlight throughout the year) and the longest night experienced in the Northern Hemisphere.
This secular holiday usually stands as an alternative to the pressures of the Christmas and wider holiday season. Instead, Festivus allows you to air out your grievances and get things off your chest. We thank the TV show Seinfield for this marvel (The Strike, 1997, season 9, episode 10).
