Advancing our commitments to global sustainability [Report]

Marko Damjanovic, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Clarivate, reviews our 2022 ESG milestones and highlights our 2023 goals for advancing our strategic commitments to the United Nations SDGs – all by accelerating our actions and by helping our customers achieve their goals.

At Clarivate we put sustainability at the heart of our business goals and we want environment, social and governance issues to be the core of our global culture, serving as guiding principles for every decision we make. Our new sustainability report is full of real-life examples of how we help our customers, colleagues and communities, with transparent, data-driven results and real insights on where we need to focus moving forward.

Since we published our last sustainability report nearly a year ago, we have continued the momentum and remained focused on areas where we can take action faster, enhance our purpose and make a greater impact.

Our aim to connect sustainability to everything we do

In our 2022 sustainability report we highlight our milestones and progress in quantifying our contributions and aligning our solutions to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals using ‘materiality mapping.’ This approach enables us to understand the progress we’ve made and identifies our greatest opportunities moving forward. Here are some milestones in our commitment to support the United Nations SDGs thus far:

  • 46% of Clarivate revenue in 2022 is aligned with the SDGs.
  • 55% of companies ranked in Dow Jones Sustainability Index World Index 2022 work in partnership with us.

Our commitment to driving real, quantifiable change for our planet

Some of our ambitious, yet attainable environmental goals include setting a science-based target by the end of 2024 and achieving a net-zero future by 2040. We remain members of the “Business Ambition for 1.5” campaign – joining a global coalition of United Nations agencies and business and industry leaders in partnership with the UN Global Compact. We have also set a goal to increase our S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) score from 56 to 62 in 2023.

We are continuing to amplify our actions and deepen our focus on protecting and preserving the environment. Through our products and services, we help customers to develop sustainable innovations and establish, protect and promote ESG-focused brands that empower consumers to make smarter, more sustainable choices.

Ensuring sustainability is a shared imperative

We simply cannot discuss sustainability in a vacuum. We will continuously examine the bigger picture – which includes our colleagues, our customers and our supply chain – and acknowledge that each decision we make may impact our future. We partner with EcoVadis to help ensure we work with sustainable vendors and suppliers around the world who share our ESG philosophy and level of commitment.

We are most proud of our colleagues worldwide who have mobilized around giving back and making a difference, contributing more than 25,000 hours of volunteer service in 2022. We are also tracking our progress through customer success stories – helping our customers apply research and insights to solve some of the most critical global challenges, from climate change and disease management to educating the next generation of pioneering scientists, sustainable resource use and more.

One of our priorities at Clarivate is creating an inclusive and diverse workplace that fosters an inspirational culture of belonging. We are committed to providing purposeful opportunities for colleagues to connect in order to strengthen our ESG focus. Clarivate supports colleagues around the world who participate in one or many of our Colleague Resource Groups, where they can listen and learn, have open conversations, debate new ideas and improve our work practices – especially around sustainability.

Continuing to learn, act and grow together

Like so many organizations on a similar journey to sustainability, we realize we have a lot more to do. We all have an essential role to play to drive positive, meaningful impact for years to come.

We welcome you to join the conversation at clarivate.com/sustainability-at-clarivate/ as we work hard to build a more sustainable company that is focused on the bigger picture and driving long-term success for our customers, our community and our world.
